ECI Expands Postal Ballot Facility for Elections

On 19th March 2026, ECI announced measures to expand postal ballot voting. The move targets upcoming Assembly elections in multiple states.

- States include Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
- Voters above 85 years can vote through postal ballots.
- Persons with Disabilities are also eligible for this facility.
- Eligible voters must submit Form 12D within five days.
- Booth Level Officers will assist in the application process.
- Polling teams will collect votes from voters’ residences.
- Essential service workers can also avail postal ballot facility.
- The provision is under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
