ECI Expands Postal Ballot Facility for Elections

On 19th March 2026, ECI announced measures to expand postal ballot voting. The move targets upcoming Assembly elections in multiple states.

Key Points

• States include Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
• Voters above 85 years can vote through postal ballots.
• Persons with Disabilities are also eligible for this facility.
• Eligible voters must submit Form 12D within five days.
• Booth Level Officers will assist in the application process.
• Polling teams will collect votes from voters’ residences.
• Essential service workers can also avail postal ballot facility.
• The provision is under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
