Gujarat Signs MoU under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

On 20th March 2026, Gujarat signed an MoU with the Centre’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0. It aims to strengthen rural drinking water supply systems.
- The focus is on sustainability after universal tap connections achieved in 2022.
- The MoU was signed in presence of CM Bhupendra Patel.
- Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil also attended the event.
- The mission aims to ensure regular and reliable water supply.
- It focuses on long-term sustainability of water infrastructure.
- Jal Jeevan Mission was launched on 15th August 2019.
- It aims to provide tap water to every rural household.
- Gujarat achieved “Har Ghar Jal” target in October 2022.
- Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 targets sustainability by 2028.
- Village Water and Sanitation Committees will manage local systems.
- Digital platforms like Sujalam Bharat will be used for monitoring.
- Initiatives like Nal Jal Mitra support capacity building.
- The MoU enhances transparency, monitoring and implementation efficiency.
