Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan

On 10th May 2026, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan was appointed as the next Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Western Naval Command headquartered in Mumbai.

He will lead one of the Indian Navy’s most strategically significant commands, responsible for securing India’s western maritime front and major sea lanes in the Arabian Sea.
Currently, Vice Admiral Vatsayan is serving as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff.
A specialist in Gunnery and Missile Systems, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1988.
He has also held key policy and planning assignments at Naval Headquarters and the Integrated Defence Staff.
In 2021, he was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service.
