Kuljeet Kaur Marhas

On 9th May 2026, Kuljeet Kaur Marhas became the first Indian woman to be elected Fellow of the Meteoritical Society.

She was elected as a Fellow for 2026 in recognition of her exceptional contributions to meteoritics, cosmochemistry and planetary science.
Prof. Marhas is a professor in the Planetary Science Division at the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad.
Founded in 1933, the Meteoritical Society is one of the world’s most prestigious scientific bodies dedicated to the study of meteorites and planetary materials.
In the society’s 93-year history, Prof. Marhas is only the third Indian scientist to receive this honour after Devendra Lal and J N Goswami.
She is internationally recognised for pioneering research on short-lived radionuclides and stable isotopes found in extraterrestrial materials.
Her work includes studies on pre-solar grains, Calcium-Aluminum-rich Inclusions (CAIs), chondrules and meteorite organic matter.
