Odisha Cabinet Approved Key Reforms

On 20th May 2026, the Odisha Cabinet approved 10 major proposals across seven departments during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

  • One of the key decisions was the approval for enactment of the Odisha Marine Fishing (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 2026 (OMFRA 2026), replacing the Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1982.
  • The proposed legislation aimed to create a modern legal framework for marine fisheries management in the state.
  • The state government targeted seafood exports worth ₹25,000 crore by 2036 through the reforms in the fisheries sector.
  • The Cabinet also approved the repeal of 358 obsolete laws enacted between 1974 and 2025 through the proposed Odisha Repealing Bill, 2026.
