CDSCO Bars Injectable Cosmetic Products

  • 22 May 2026

On 18th May 2026, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) clarified that cosmetic products supplied in injectable form do not fall under the legal definition of cosmetics and are not permitted for use by consumers, professionals or aesthetic clinics.

  • The regulator stated that cosmetics are legally meant only to be “rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed” on the human body for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness or altering appearance.
  • The advisory aims to prevent misuse of cosmetic products for treatment purposes and ensure consumer safety amid the growing trend of non-surgical aesthetic procedures.
  • CDSCO functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and serves as India’s national regulatory authority for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and medical devices.
