Unincorporated Sector Employment Crosses 15 Crore

According to the National Statistics Office’s report released on 21st May 2026, in the January-March 2026 quarter, India’s unincorporated non-agricultural sector recorded strong growth, with establishments crossing 9 crore and employment exceeding 15 crores.

- Rural Growth Driver: Rural areas recorded a higher growth of 20.46 per cent in establishments compared to 12.59 per cent in urban areas.
- Employment Increase: Employment in the sector rose to 15.17 crore, growing by 15.51 per cent over the previous year.
- Services Sector Contribution: Establishments in the unincorporated services sector grew by 24.82 per cent, while employment increased by over 31 per cent.
- Women Workforce Participation: Women accounted for nearly 29 per cent of total employment in the sector.
- Digital Adoption: Around 81 per cent of establishments used internet services and adopted cashless payment methods such as UPI and online banking.
- Formalisation Trend: About 41.37 per cent of establishments reported some form of official registration.
