Wrestling World Championships

On 22nd May 2026, the United World Wrestling (UWW) postponed the 2026 World Wrestling Championships that had been scheduled to be held in Bahrain from 24 October to 1 November 2026.

The decision was taken jointly by UWW, the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Wrestling Federation.
The postponement was announced due to the prevailing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in the Gulf region.
UWW stated that concerns related to regional stability, international travel and the safety of athletes, officials and spectators were key reasons behind the decision.
The governing body said that athlete safety, confidence and overall event experience remained the highest priority.
