World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2026

On 17th June 2026, the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is being observed globally to raise awareness about the need for international cooperation in combating desertification, land degradation and drought.

The day highlights that desertification can be effectively addressed through sustainable land management, policy interventions and collective action.
It emphasises the importance of participation and cooperation at local, national and international levels to restore degraded land and build resilience against drought.
The theme for 2026 is “Rangelands: Recognise. Respect. Restore".
