Birth Anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwala

On 17th June 2026, Jyotiprasad Agarwala, popularly known as Rupkonwar (Prince of Beauty), was remembered on his birth anniversary for his immense contribution to Assamese culture.

Born on 17 June 1903 at Tamulbari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh, Agarwala was a poet, playwright, lyricist, composer, filmmaker, and freedom fighter.
He is regarded as one of the foremost architects of the Assamese cultural renaissance during the early twentieth century.
In 1935, he produced, directed, and wrote Joymoti, the first Assamese feature film, marking the beginning of Assamese cinema.
