IITM-ARIES MoU for Himalayan Climate Observation

On 18th June 2026, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) signed a long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Climate Observation Station in the Himalayan region.

• The Climate Observation Station will be established at ARIES’ Devasthal campus in Uttarakhand.
• The station will monitor meteorological parameters, greenhouse gases, short-lived climate forcers, atmospheric chemistry, and soil moisture to generate long-term climate datasets.
• Devasthal is ideal for studying greenhouse gases, climate-relevant pollutants, and Himalayan climate processes.
