Centre Eases Scholarship Access for SC and OBC Students

On 19th June 2026, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) removed the requirement of submitting a domicile certificate under the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship Schemes for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), making the scholarship application process simpler and more accessible.

- Beneficiaries: The reform is expected to benefit nearly 1.2 crore students annually, including those studying outside their home states.
- Objective: The move aims to reduce documentation, lower compliance costs and make scholarship schemes more student-friendly.
- SETU Portal Launched: The department has launched SETU (Scholarship for Educational Transformation and Upliftment) on the UMANG platform as a single-window portal for scholarship services.
- Features of SETU: The platform enables scholarship application registration, application tracking and validation by applicants, Institutional Nodal Officers, District Nodal Officers and State officials.
