Uzbekistan Joins New Development Bank

In June 2026, Uzbekistan officially became the 10th member of the New Development Bank (NDB), becoming the first Central Asian country to join the BRICS-backed multilateral development bank.
Key Points:
- Investment Focus: The NDB plans to begin preparing projects in Uzbekistan in sectors such as energy, water management, transport, municipal infrastructure and social infrastructure.
- Key Advantages: The bank will promote financing in national currencies, use national procurement procedures, apply environmental risk assessment mechanisms and ensure faster project implementation.
- Objective: Uzbekistan joined the NDB to strengthen trade, investment and economic cooperation with member countries and mobilise financing for infrastructure and sustainable development.
- About NDB: Established in 2015 by the BRICS countries, the New Development Bank finances infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies.
- Current Members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Algeria and Uzbekistan.
