On 23rd June 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and the Prosperity Party on their decisive victory in Ethiopia’s parliamentary elections.

  • The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) declared the ruling Prosperity Party the winner of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election held on 1st June 2026.
  • The Prosperity Party secured 438 out of 486 contested seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HoPR), the lower house of Ethiopia’s Parliament.
  • Under Ethiopia’s Constitution, the party or coalition securing a majority in the HoPR is entitled to form the government and nominate the Prime Minister.
