Centre Unveils Green Urea Roadmap

In June 2026, the Centre unveiled a roadmap for establishing Green Urea production in India, supported by the procurement of 7.24 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of Green Ammonia under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM).

• •Green Urea Initiative: The roadmap aims to promote sustainable fertilizer production, reduce carbon emissions and strengthen India's fertilizer security through Green Urea manufacturing.
• •Green Ammonia Procurement: The government will procure 7.24 lakh MT of Green Ammonia annually through an e-reverse auction conducted by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) Mode 2A.
• •Subsidy Mechanism: The Department of Fertilizers will compensate the price difference between Green Ammonia and Grey Ammonia, enabling fertilizer manufacturers to adopt greener feedstock without additional financial burden.
• •Producer Incentives: Green Ammonia developers will receive long-term financial incentives for up to 10 years, providing investment certainty for new projects.
