World Zoonoses Day 2026

Every year on 6th July, World Zoonoses Day is observed to raise awareness about diseases that are transmitted between animals and humans.

• The day commemorates the successful administration of the world's first rabies vaccine by Louis Pasteur on 6 July 1885.
• The observance highlights the importance of preventing zoonotic diseases and promoting the One Health approach.
• On the occasion of World Zoonoses Day 2026, Union Health Minister emphasized the importance of the One Health approach as a key pillar of India's public health strategy.
• The Centre for One Health, New Delhi, under the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), promotes coordinated action among the human, animal, and environmental health sectors to detect, prevent, and control zoonotic diseases.
