Centre of Excellence on Human–Wildlife Conflict Inaugurated

On 10th July 2026, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Human–Wildlife Conflict at the Wildlife Institute of India–Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (WII-SACON), Coimbatore.

  • The Centre of Excellence was established following the announcement made by the Prime Minister during the 7th meeting of the National Board for Wildlife.
  • The Centre will serve as a national hub for research, innovation, policy support, capacity building, and dissemination of best practices for scientific management of human–wildlife conflict.
  • The Minister also launched the National Human–Wildlife Conflict Portal, a digital platform for data management, knowledge sharing, and decision support to strengthen conflict mitigation across India.
