INS Mahendragiri Commissioned into Indian Navy

On 11th July 2026, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned INS Mahendragiri, the sixth Project 17A Nilgiri-class stealth frigate, into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam.

  • Indigenous Design: The warship was designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
  • Aatmanirbhar Bharat: The frigate has over 75% indigenous content, with significant participation from Indian MSMEs.
  • Combat Capability: It is equipped for anti-air, anti-surface, anti-submarine warfare, electronic warfare, maritime security and HADR operations.
