BRICS Adopts Labour Declaration

On 15th July 2026, BRICS Labour Ministers adopted a landmark Labour and Employment Ministers’ Declaration and India also launched BRICS CONNECT to strengthen cooperation on labour, skills and social protection.

- BRICS CONNECT: India launched BRICS CONNECT to facilitate technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and capacity building among member countries.
- Women’s Employment: The declaration supports higher female workforce participation through skills, parental leave, workplace safety and leadership opportunities.
- Skills Development: BRICS backed cooperation on skills mapping and the International Reference Classification of Occupations being developed with the ILO.
- Digital Labour: Member countries agreed to strengthen cooperation on digital technologies, including support for gig and platform workers.
- India’s Labour Reforms: India highlighted the consolidation of 29 labour laws into four Labour Codes and the e-Shram portal, which has registered over 317 million unorganised workers.
