‘Sowcar’ Janaki

On 21st August 2026, veteran actor ‘Sowcar’ Janaki passed away at the age of 94.

Janaki had a seven-decade career spanning more than 400 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema.
She made her acting debut with the 1950 Telugu film Shavukaru, directed by L. V. Prasad.
She delivered notable performances in films including Puthiya Paravai, Neerkumizhi, Edhir Neechal, Iru Kodugal and Thillu Mullu.
In Telugu cinema, her notable films included Rojulu Marayi, Kanyasulkam, Panduranga Mahatyam and Doctor Chakravarty.
