New Part-Time Directors of RBI Central Board

On 22nd August 2026, the government appointed Annie George Mathew, Janmejaya Kumar Sinha and Syed Akbaruddin as part-time directors of RBI’s Central Board.

  • The appointments were made for a four-year term under Section 8(1)(c) of the RBI Act, 1934.
  • Annie George Mathew is a former Special Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.
  • Janmejaya Kumar Sinha is an economist and management consultant with experience in financial-sector reforms.
  • Syed Akbaruddin is a former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations.
  • The appointments increase the RBI Central Board’s strength from 11 to 14 members.
