Lake Ontario Renamed “Lake America” by the U.S.

On 27th August 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America”.

  • The order directs the U.S. Department of the Interior to implement the name change.
  • Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America.
  • It lies along the border between Ontario, Canada, and New York, USA.
  • The lake is the easternmost and smallest by surface area among the five Great Lakes.
  • The Great Lakes form one of the world’s largest freshwater systems.
  • The other four Great Lakes are Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie.
