6th National Pharmacovigilance Week

On September 17, 2026, the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) launched the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week (NPW) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The week is being celebrated across the country from September 17 to 23, 2026.
Key Highlights
- Theme: This year's theme is "Promoting Rational Use of Medicines Through Pharmacovigilance – A Step Towards Safer Healthcare."
- Primary Objective: The campaign aims to create awareness among healthcare professionals, researchers, and the general public regarding Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting.
- Role of IPC: The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission functions as the National Coordination Centre (NCC) for the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI).
- Pharmacovigilance Network: Emphasized the need to strengthen drug safety monitoring across the country, aiming to establish at least one ADR monitoring center and one medical device monitoring center in aspirational districts.
- Safety Data: Effective analysis and utilization of pharmacovigilance data were highlighted as crucial for regulatory and clinical decision-making and rational drug usage.
