On 27th March, Kamal Kishore was appointed as UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction.

  • Kishore succeeds Mami Mizutori of Japan at UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
  • With nearly three decades of experience, Kishore has worked in disaster risk reduction, climate action, and sustainable development at global, regional, national, and local levels.
  • He led the G20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction and contributed to the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure during India's G20 presidency.
  • Kishore's extensive background includes roles with UNDP, Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre, and The Action Research Unit for Development, focusing on disaster resilience, recovery, and risk reduction in various countries.
  • He holds a Master of Science in Urban Planning, Land and Housing Development, and a Bachelor of Architecture.
