LCA Tejas Mark 1A

On 28th March, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) completed first flight of indigenous LCA Tejas Mark 1A fighter jet in Bengaluru.

  • Aircraft was airborne for 15 minutes during its maiden flight, marking a significant milestone in India's aerospace capabilities.
  • Fighter aircraft likely to be deployed at NAL airbase in Rajasthan’s Bikaner near Pakistan border, enhancing defence capabilities along the western frontier.
  • IAF has signed contract worth over Rs 48,000 crore with HAL for supplying 83 LCA planes, with clearance for 97 more LCA Mark 1A fighter jets at Rs 65,000 crore.
  • LCA Mark 1 aircraft were inducted into IAF in 2016, with plans to equip almost ten squadrons of the Air Force with LCA Mark 1As, as per IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari.
