Frederick Forsyth, Master of Thrillers, Dies at 86

On 9th June 2025, bestselling British thriller writer Frederick Forsyth, author of ‘The Day of the Jackal’, passed away at the age of 86 following a brief illness.

  • Born in 1938 in Kent, England, Forsyth served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force before transitioning into journalism as a foreign correspondent.
  • His experience covering the 1962 attempted assassination of French President Charles de Gaulle served as the inspiration for his debut novel, The Day of the Jackal, published in 1971.
  • The book became an international bestseller and was later adapted into a 1973 film starring Edward Fox, and more recently, into a television series featuring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch.
