UGC Flags 89 Institutes Over Ragging Norms
- 30 Jun 2025

On 30thJune 2025, the University Grants Commission (UGC) issued notices to 89 higher education institutions, including premier IITs and IIMs, for failing to comply with anti-ragging regulations.
 - The institutions have been accused of not submitting the mandatory Anti-Ragging Undertakings from students and the Compliance Undertaking from the administration, as required under the UGC Regulations on Ragging, 2009.
 - Despite repeated advisories and follow-up communication from UGC, these institutions failed to fulfil the compliance requirements, prompting the issuance of formal notices.
 - Among the prominent institutions named in the defaulters’ list are four Indian Institutes of Technology: IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Palakkad, and IIT Hyderabad.
 - The list also includes three Indian Institutes of Management: IIM Bombay, IIM Rohtak, and IIM Tiruchirappalli, raising serious concerns over adherence to student safety norms at elite institutions.
