On 29thJune 2025, Union Home Minister inaugurated the headquarters of the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad, Telangana, marking a major step in boosting India’s turmeric sector.
- The National Turmeric Board (NTB) was officially set up by the central government in January 2025 to promote turmeric production, value addition, and global trade.
- The board’s new headquarters in Nizamabad underscores Telangana’s critical role as a leading turmeric-producing region in India.
- The government has set an ambitious target of achieving one billion dollars in turmeric exports by the year 2030, aiming to boost farmers’ income and strengthen India’s export portfolio.
- India is currently the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of turmeric globally, contributing more than 62% to the world’s turmeric trade.
- Major turmeric-producing states in India include Telangana, Maharashtra, and Meghalaya, which are expected to benefit significantly from NTB initiative
