India Receives Second GE-F404 Engine for LCA Tejas Mk-1A

On 15th July 2025, India received the second GE-F404 engine from the United States for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mark-1A fighter jet programme.
Key Points
- Engine Delivery: HAL took delivery of the second GE-F404 engine; the first arrived in March 2025.
- Delayed Supply: Deliveries were delayed by over a year due to supply chain disruptions faced by the American engine manufacturer.
- Aircraft Integration: The engines will be fitted on the LCA Mk-1A fighter jets. HAL aims to deliver over 10 jets to the Indian Air Force (IAF) soon.
- IAF Orders: The IAF has placed an order for 83 Tejas Mk-1A aircraft; a proposal for 97 more is in an advanced stage.
- Contract Value: In August 2021, HAL signed a Rs. 5,375 crore contract with GE Aerospace for 99 F404 engines.
