Automotive Mission Plan 2047

In July 2025, the Ministry of Heavy Industries initiated the formulation of the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047) — a visionary roadmap aligned with the Viksit Bharat @2047 initiative. This strategic effort aims to position India as a global leader in the automotive sector through innovation, sustainability, and enhanced global trade presence.

Key Points

Vision & Goals: AMP 2047 sets concrete targets for 2030, 2037, and 2047 to strengthen sectoral growth, boost exports, and advance India’s automotive industry in alignment with national economic goals.
Collaborative Framework: Seven sub-committees have been formed, consisting of experts from the government, industry (SIAM, ACMA, CII, FICCI), academia, think tanks, and testing agencies.
Strategic Focus: The plan emphasizes long-term growth beyond short-term technologies or individual companies, focusing on India's share in global automotive trade and leadership in quality and innovation.
Multiministerial Involvement: The initiative includes participation from key ministries like Power, Road Transport, Commerce, Petroleum, DPIIT, and Environment, ensuring a unified national strategy.
Stakeholder Integration: AMP 2047 brings together OEMs, auto component manufacturers, policy-makers, and end-users to tackle challenges like rapid tech evolution and charging infrastructure needs.
Background – AMP 2026: The ongoing AMP 2016–2026 aims to position India among the top three global players in automotive engineering, manufacturing, and exports, with a projected contribution of 12% to India’s GDP and 65 million job opportunities.
