On 25th July, 2025, the Ministry of Defence signed a Rs. 2,000 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in New Delhi for the supply of air defence fire control radars to the Indian Army.

  • The deal was signed under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, promoting domestic defence production and reducing import dependency.
  • These advanced fire control radars will possess the capability to detect a wide range of airborne threats, including fighter jets, attack helicopters, and hostile drones.
  • Featuring a minimum of 70% indigenous content, the radars represent a significant boost to India’s goal of achieving self-reliance in defence technology.
  • The new systems will modernise the Indian Army’s air defence regiments and substantially improve their operational preparedness across multiple threat scenarios.
  • The procurement will stimulate domestic manufacturing by engaging Indian MSMEs for components and raw material supply, further strengthening the defence industrial ecosystem.
