On 23rd August 2025, India celebrated the Second National Space Day, marking two years since the historic Chandrayaan-3 mission achieved a successful soft landing on the Moon’s surface.

  • On 23rd August 2023, the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s Vikram Lander made a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, followed by the successful deployment of the Pragyan Rover.
  • With this achievement, India became the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first to land near the Moon’s southern polar region, with the landing site later named Shiv Shakti Point.
  • To honour this milestone, the Government of India officially declared 23rd August as National Space Day, celebrating the country’s progress in space exploration and innovation.
  • The theme for 2025 is “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities”, highlighting India’s journey from its earliest space research to its future human spaceflight mission.
