Vaishali Rameshbabu Wins FIDE Grand Swiss

On 15th September 2025, Vaishali Rameshbabu clinched the FIDE Grand Swiss title for the second consecutive edition after drawing her final game against former women’s world champion Tan Zhongyi, making history as the first player to win the event twice.

Vaishali’s victory marks the first time in the short history of the FIDE Grand Swiss that a player has won the tournament in two editions, highlighting her consistency and elite-level performance.
By securing the Grand Swiss title, Vaishali also earned a coveted spot in the upcoming Candidates Tournament, which determines the challenger for the Women’s World Chess Championship.
This achievement makes her only the third Indian woman to qualify for the Candidates, joining the ranks of Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh.
