Legendary Cricket Umpire Dickie Bird Passes Away

On 23rd September 2025, retired international cricket umpire Harold Dennis “Dickie” Bird, who officiated in three World Cup finals and became one of the most iconic figures in cricket history, passed away at the age of 92.

Dickie Bird, a former first-class English cricketer, turned to umpiring after an injury cut short his playing career, and went on to leave an indelible mark on the game.
He made his debut as a Test match umpire in 1973 and went on to officiate 66 Tests and 76 One-Day Internationals, including men’s and women’s cricket, over a distinguished 23-year career.
His reputation for fairness, integrity, and deep knowledge of the sport made him one of the most respected umpires in the world.
