DRDO Unveils IRSA 1.0

On 6th October 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) and the Tri-Services, launched the Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) Standard 1.0 in New Delhi, marking a landmark step toward indigenous and interoperable defence communication systems.
- The Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) 1.0 is a unified software framework for Software Defined Radios (SDRs), defining standardized interfaces, APIs, execution environments, and waveform portability mechanisms across India’s armed forces.
- The standard aims to ensure seamless waveform portability, interoperability, certification, and conformance across SDR platforms used by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, thereby enhancing communication efficiency and operational coordination.
