WHO: 15 Million Teens Using E-Cigarettes Globally
- 08 Oct 2025
On 7th October 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) released its first global estimate of e-cigarette use, highlighting that at least 15 million people aged 13 to 15 are vaping, and young people are on average nine times more likely to vape than adults in countries with available data.
Key Points
- Global Vaping Estimates: Over 100 million people worldwide are using e-cigarettes, including at least 86 million adults, with most users concentrated in high-income countries.
- Youth Nicotine Risk: The WHO warned that e-cigarettes are driving a “new wave of nicotine addiction,” with young people being hooked earlier despite claims of harm reduction.
- Decline in Tobacco Use: Global tobacco use has fallen from 1.38 billion in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024, reflecting decades of public health efforts and stricter regulations.
- Industry Shift: Tobacco companies are increasingly promoting alternative products such as e-cigarettes to offset declining sales from traditional tobacco consumption.
