CCEA Approves ₹24,634 Cr Multitracking Railway Projects

On 7th October 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved four major multitracking projects of the Railways Ministry across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh, with a total estimated cost of ₹24,634 crore.
Key Points
- Project Scope: The approved projects will add approximately 894 kilometres to India’s railway network, enhancing connectivity, easing congestion, and improving operational efficiency for both passenger and freight services.
- PM Gati Shakti Integration: These projects are part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on integrated and multimodal connectivity, enhanced logistics efficiency, and coordinated planning across stakeholders.
- Tourism and Cultural Benefits: The upgraded routes will improve access to key tourist and heritage sites, including Sanchi, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Hazara Falls, and Nawegaon National Park, supporting regional tourism development.
- Freight and Economic Impact: The lines will serve as crucial freight corridors for coal, cement, steel, containers, food grains, and fly ash, with an expected additional freight-handling capacity of 78 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
