2025 Nobel Prizes Announced for Physics, and Chemistry
- 09 Oct 2025
The Nobel Prizes 2025 in Physics, and Chemistry were announced on 7th & 8th October 2025 respectively, recognising groundbreaking research that has advanced scientific knowledge and practical applications globally, while the remaining prizes in Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences are scheduled for later this week.
- The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret, and John M. Martinis for pioneering work on macroscopic quantum phenomena in superconducting circuits, demonstrating quantum tunnelling and energy quantisation in circuits large enough to handle, bridging microscopic and macroscopic physics.
- The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2025 was awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi (UC Berkeley) for developing metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), porous crystalline materials built from metal ions linked by organic molecules that can store gases, catalyse reactions, and conduct electricity.
- Each Nobel laureate receives 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1 million) funded by the will of Alfred Nobel, with formal presentation of the prizes taking place on 10 December, the anniversary of Nobel’s death.
