India and Canada Reaffirm Strategic Partnership

On 13th October 2025, External Affairs Minister and Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister held high-level talks in New Delhi to revitalize India–Canada relations.

- Comprehensive Cooperation Roadmap: India and Canada have outlined a roadmap to deepen collaboration across strategic, economic, security, and technological areas — grounded in shared democratic values and mutual respect for sovereignty.
- Economic and Trade Partnership: Bilateral trade reached $23.66 billion in 2024. Both nations will soon resume ministerial-level trade and investment talks and reconvene the Canada–India CEO Forum in early 2026.
- Climate, Energy and Critical Minerals: A renewed focus on clean energy cooperation will include re-establishing the Canada–India Ministerial Energy Dialogue and launching the Critical Minerals Annual Dialogue in Toronto in March 2026 to support energy transition and supply chain resilience.
- Innovation and AI Collaboration: The two sides will relaunch the Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committee and collaborate on AI, digital public infrastructure, and emerging technologies. Canadian experts will join India’s AI Impact Summit in February 2026.
- Agriculture and Food Security: The nations will partner on agri-value chains, climate-resilient farming, waste-to-energy projects, and stable agricultural supply chains to enhance food security and farmers’ incomes.
- Education and Cultural Exchange: The Joint Working Group on Higher Education will be revitalized to expand academic collaboration, alongside greater cooperation in tourism, student mobility, and cultural exchange.
