India, South Korea Begin First-ever Naval Exercise

On 13th October 2025, India and South Korea launched their first-ever bilateral naval exercise at Busan Naval Base, marking a significant milestone in the growing maritime partnership between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN).

  • The exercise began with the arrival of INS Sahyadri, an indigenously designed Shivalik-class stealth frigate, at Busan as part of its ongoing operational deployment in the South China Sea and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
  • The Republic of Korea Navy accorded a ceremonial welcome to INS Sahyadri, symbolizing the strengthening defence cooperation and mutual respect between the two maritime forces.
  • The bilateral exercise, designed with both harbour and sea phases, aims to enhance interoperability, coordination, and mutual trust between the Indian and South Korean navies through practical and professional engagements.
