  • 15 Oct 2025

On 15th October 2025, Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted in East Nusa Tenggara province, spewing volcanic ash 10 kilometres into the sky and prompting authorities to raise the alert level to its highest stage.

  • The eruption prompted the temporary closure of Fransiskus Xaverius Seda Airport in Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara province, with operations suspended to ensure aviation safety amid the widespread ash cloud.
  • The Lewotobi volcano, which has erupted multiple times this year—including in July and August—has a history of deadly activity, with a major eruption in November 2024 killing 10 people and damaging thousands of homes.
