Sonali Ghosh Wins Global Conservation Award

On 10th October 2025, Sonali Ghosh, Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, became the first Indian to receive the prestigious Kenton R. Miller Award for innovation in national parks and protected area sustainability, in Abu Dhabi.

  • Sonali Ghosh shared the award with Ecuador’s Roque Simón Sevilla Larrea at a function organized by the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), which recognises impactful innovations in conservation.
  • The WCPA, one of six technical commissions of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), specialises in protected area governance, management, and policy, supporting national parks, reserves, and marine protected areas worldwide.
  • The Kenton R. Miller Award, established in 2006 and presented every two years, honours individuals or teams whose innovations in planning, governance, finance, monitoring, and community engagement have made significant conservation impacts without prior international recognition.
