On 29th October, 2025, India joined the global observance of World Stroke Day, emphasizing awareness, prevention, and timely management of stroke—one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability worldwide.
- Globally, 15 million people suffer from strokes annually, resulting in five million deaths and leaving another five million permanently disabled, as per the World Health Organization (WHO).
- In India, stroke remains among the top causes of death and chronic disability, imposing a substantial economic and emotional burden on families and the healthcare system.
- The Ministry of Ayush called for a holistic, integrated healthcare model that combines modern medicine with traditional systems such as Ayurveda and Homeopathy for stroke prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
