On 28th November 2025, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) initiated the second edition of its ‘Nudge’ campaign to encourage taxpayers to revise their returns and disclose any undeclared foreign assets.

  • The campaign aims to nudge taxpayers who may have failed to report foreign assets in their Income Tax Returns by sending targeted emails and SMS alerts based on data analysis.
  • CBDT noted that the first edition of the Non-intrusive Usage of Data to Guide and Enable (NUDGE) campaign in November 2024 led to significant disclosures, including ₹29,208 crore worth of foreign assets and ₹1,089.88 crore of foreign-sourced income.
  • The Department receives detailed financial information from multiple partner countries under international agreements designed to track foreign assets owned by Indian residents.
