Government Notifies Guidelines for Shipbuilding Schemes

On 27th December 2025, the government notified the operational guidelines for the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme and the Shipbuilding Development Scheme to strengthen India’s domestic shipbuilding capacity and enhance global competitiveness.

- Objective of the Schemes: To revive domestic shipbuilding, strengthen forward and backward industrial linkages, attract large-scale investment, and position India as a major maritime nation in line with Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
- Policy Reset: The schemes reflect a decisive policy reset for India’s shipbuilding sector under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Validity Period: Both schemes will remain operational until 31 March 2036.
- Total Financial Outlay: The two schemes together involve a combined outlay of ₹44,700 crore to strengthen India’s shipbuilding ecosystem.
