- 05 Jan 2026
On 5th January 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Somnath Temple’s survival over the past one thousand years reflects India’s indomitable civilisational spirit and unbroken cultural continuity.
- In an Op-Ed marking 1,000 years since the first attack on Somnath in 1026, the Prime Minister said the very word Somnath instils pride and stands as an eternal proclamation of India’s soul.
- He noted that the temple, located at Prabhas Patan on Gujarat’s western coast, continues to stand tall despite repeated attacks and immense adversity.
- He stressed that Somnath’s story is not merely about a temple, but about the unbreakable courage of generations of Indians who safeguarded Bharat’s culture and civilisation.
