Kabindra Purkayastha

On 7th January 2026, former Union Minister of State and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kabindra Purkayastha passed away at the age of 94 in Silchar.

Kabindra Purkayastha was one of the founding members of the BJP, contributing significantly to the party’s early growth and ideological foundation.
He was born on 15 December 1931 at Kamarkhal in the then Sylhet district, now part of Bangladesh.
He was deeply associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which he joined in 1951.
Over the decades, he held several organisational responsibilities and played a key role in spreading RSS ideology across the Northeast.
