RBI Signs MoU with European Markets Regulator ESMA

  • 29 Jan 2026

In January 2026, the Reserve Bank of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) during the India visit of the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission.

  • The MoU aims to enable formal recognition of the Clearing Corporation of India Limited (CCIL) and other RBI-regulated Central Counterparties (CCPs) by ESMA.
  • Such recognition will allow Indian CCPs to provide clearing services to European market participants in compliance with EU regulations.
  • The agreement establishes a framework for regulatory cooperation, consultation and information exchange between RBI and ESMA.
  • Both authorities will jointly monitor the ongoing compliance of recognised CCPs with the conditions laid down under the EU regulatory framework.
