India Hosts First BRICS Sherpas Meeting Under Its Chairship

From 9 to 10 February 2026, the first meeting of BRICS Sherpas and Sous Sherpas under India’s chairship was held in New Delhi.

Sherpas and senior officials from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE participated in the deliberations, marking the start of coordination for India’s Chairship year.
India presented its priorities under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” with multiple ministries outlining initiatives across health, agriculture, labour, environment, energy, ICT, security, and economic cooperation.
Delegates held discussions on institutional development of BRICS and explored people-centric cooperation through sports, youth engagement, cultural exchanges, the Academic Forum, Think Tank Council, Civil Forum, Business Council and Women’s Business Alliance.
