On 11th February 2026, the Union Home Ministry issued detailed guidelines on the observance of India’s National Song, Vande Mataram, specifying the order of performance and occasions for its official rendition at state functions.

  • Six Stanzas Mandatory: The government has directed that all six stanzas of the official version of Vande Mataram must be rendered first when the National Song and the National Anthem are performed together.
  • Key State Occasions: The full version is to be sung or played during major ceremonial events such as the arrival of the President, unfurling of the National Flag and formal addresses by Governors.
  • Use At Formal Functions: The National Song will be played at Civil Investiture ceremonies and during the arrival and departure of the President and Governors at official State functions.
  • Broadcast Protocol: It must be played immediately before and after the President’s address to the nation on All India Radio-Akashvani and television.
  • Parade Ceremonies: The song is also to be played when the National Flag is brought on parade during official ceremonial occasions.
  • Posture Requirement: Individuals present at assemblies where Vande Mataram is performed are required to stand in an attention posture as a mark of respect.
